Mike's Victorian Meeting

Doncaster in the Sun

Whilst the rest of the club were enjoying an outing to Swansea, I was "down under" working in Melbourne.

Before going I had contacted the President of the MX-5 club of Victoria, Bill Campbell and arranged to meet up with them at the start of their run on the 2nd March. They were setting off for a photo-shoot competition, and I met them at the start in Doncaster to the East of Melbourne.

The weather wasn't very good, but the rain held off while I was introduced to loads of people there by Bill and his wife Coral. I even bought a new radiator grill from Bob aka "Techno".

Mazda sell a turbo-charged MX-5 in Australia and Bob and at least one other had beautiful examples.

Bill and Bob +1, and a splendid Turbo Charged MX-5 Roof UP!!! Well it was below 15 degrees C. Any plate you want, so long as nobody else has it already. Ready for the Photo-Shoot competition. The Victorians and their cars.

New Friends

Whilst I was in Melbourne, I met up with a great couple, originally from the UK, Joan and Ken Read. They kindly invited me and my work colleague to their beach house for lunch in Mount Martha with a wonderful view of the bay.

Read's Hotel. Here's a picture of their beach house.

They led us on a drive up to the local vantage point in their MX-5. The best I could organise for the drive was an Astra convertible, and there was absolutely no way I could keep up with them on the short drive.

Here are a few pictures of our meeting.

Me and Joan and Ken. Joan and Ken dissapearing into the distance. Overlooking the bay near Mount Martha on a stunning Victorian day. Read's Hotel in the flesh.

I'd like to say hello and thank everyone I met for their hospitality on my trip to Melbourne, especially Joan & Ken and Bill & Coral.

Hi Ho Silver
