With Marilyn and Ray organising this event, it was the turn of West Wales to have the pleasure of a convoy of MX’s driving through the Welsh countryside.
As I drove to meet up with everybody at Swansea West
Services I reflected on the trip to Lulworth last year that Marilyn and Ray had
organised and came to the conclusion one of three things would happen on the
day's run.
1)
We would be left standing at a lay-by with Marilyn roaring of into the
horizon
2)
Ray would be sleeping in the spare bedroom that night
3) The day would run like a well organised training seminar
Things got off to a good start with 10 cars leaving the
services, together heading towards Kidwelly via Llanelli and then following the
Carmarthen Bay estuary using great ‘B’ roads through Ferryside up towards
Carmarthen and then down the other side of the estuary to Llansteffan for
refreshments and to meet up with Jennifer and Dennis.
With everybody refreshed we made our way to Laugharne where, after a circular tour of the castle, lunch was served in The Stable Door Restaurant. Dessert for the second month running was a Birthday Cake to celebrate Marilyn’s Birthday. Ros had organised a cake with a picture of Marilyn’s car printed on it, so with the candles blown out and birthday speech made, it was time to head back.
The route home involved using the usually very fast B4300 (well until you meet a Sunday Driver who insists on doing 25mph). Fortunately the car eventually pulled over to the side of the road allowing us to continue our journey. (Maybe he picked up our conversation on the walkie talkies about Sunday drivers on his radio!)
Stopping at McDonalds Cross Hands for a coffee and Mc Flurry finished off yet another perfect day out.
Thanks to Marilyn and Ray for organising the event
