This event was organised by the
Swansea MG Owners Club, but open to any car marque.
Needless to say, there were many MG’s old and new amongst the 100 plus
cars that took part, rubbing shoulders with Triumphs, Austin’s, Porsches and
of course MX5’s.
While waiting for everyone to
arrive, Mark spotted a lone MX5 in the car park.
Always on the look out for new blood, Mark went over and introduced
himself. The owners of the 5 had only recently bought their car and joined the
club the previous week, so we may see them again sometime.
When the other 5’s had
arrived, registered and received their route maps and brass plaques, we were
ready to go.
Anticipating that any pubs on
route would be busy, we all took our own food for a picnic.
Mark came up trumps and found a Forestry Commission picnic area, where we
stopped to eat our lunch. While
we were there, Bob decided to go ‘squirrel spotting’, but you will have to
ask him if he was successful or not!
We headed off again and I
think it’s fair to say that the remainder of the drive took in some very
challenging roads and some magnificent scenery.
Even Marilyn stayed awake and can attest to this!
One of the funniest moments of
the day had to be when driving through a housing estate.
Mark stopped suddenly to let a dog in the road to move out of the way,
only for the dog to continue running from one side of the road to the other,
eventually stopping in the middle of the road, where he sat down and had a
number two in front of us! WE ended
up having to drive around him to continue the drive!
The drive ended at the Castle
Hotel in Llandovery, and we elected to call in the pub for a very welcome cup of
tea, before going our separate ways.
It had been a long day, but an
enjoyable one, helped by some fantastic roads, scenery and great company.
