June 26th 2011 - Dave & Lyn's "brought forward" run

As Dave and Lyn will most probably be sunning themselves in the "Land Down Under" when they were due to lead thier next run, some fancy footwork and good planning saw it changed to June 26th.

THE RUN, AN ORGANISER'S PERSPECTIVE

5:00 am: The weather forecast had been good so why couldn’t I see a hand in front of me. That was it then, the car wasn’t going to have it’s wash & brush up before the run.

7:00am: Ho Ho, who’s been a good boy then? The sun’s out, can I wash the car this early without disturbing next door’s dogs who will wake the neighbourhood when they find out I’m up and about.

There’d been a lot of interest in the week leading up to the run so the expectation was for a fair turn out at Swansea West services. We were meeting at 10:00 for a 10:30 start. 17 cars parked up and ready to go, pick ups en route. Finally left at 10:40 as we waited in vain for 5 cars who didn’t turn up.

We set off in glorious sunshine down the M4 to the next junction then off to enjoy the humps from Pontarddulais to Pontyberem. I would have liked to have stopped at Barclay Classics to have a mooch around the cars there but we had too many cars in the convoy. We then came to an area of concern as we approached Carmarthen, we had 7 roundabouts to navigate and some of them weren’t the easiest to get around. We did however, nobody got lost and we added another car to the convoy in the guise of Brian & Chris who had driven down from Newbridge.

We then drove up to Newcastle Emlyn to our 1st destination, Teifi Valley Railway. Stopped for a half hour or so for a cuppa and pit stop, scones were nice, weren’t they Phil, almost as nice as the bacon sarnies. We picked up John & Lorna and Brian & Lizzie at this point and spoke to a new member of the club who wasn’t actually on the run. All waifes and strays welcome in our club.

Leaving Teifi Valley Railway fed and watered, we set off on our homeward leg with the temperature steadily rising. Travelled through Horeb then Llanybyther on our way to Talley. Blinked our eyes and Talley was left behind although we did catch site of the steeple behind the trees, couldn’t stop, not enough room for all our cars.

Finally we approached Llandeilo and on to our destination, The White Hart Inn. 41 people were served an excellent three course lunch in good surroundings for exceptional value ( many were so full they refused the complimentary coffee). The run was 75 miles long and I hope the roads were of sufficient variety and interest for everyone to enjoy.

Once again I forgot the sun lotion and had to use the ‘after sun’ when I returned home, a small price to pay for a wonderful day.
