May 22nd 2011 - Tops up ----- or down???? Crickhowel & Llangorse
Fingers crossed!
Following a wet and windy Saturday night let's all hope for a fine Sunday!
17 cars left Macdonalds, Glynneath in the dry but with overcast skies. A few optimistic souls risked tops down – unwise as it began bucketing down halfway up the Glynneath Bank.
Turning off the A465 at Merthyr we continued past the Pontsticill & Talybont Reservoirs. Several heavy showers helped to obscure some of the scenery but by Talybont on Usk the roads were bone dry and the sun shining. On to Crickhowell where we had a short stop and picked up a further 6 cars.
The "other" type of soft tops
On to Llangorse Lake, for our next satop, where most preferred a visit to the cafe rather than a walk to see the lake.
About 30 MGs arrived from the Hereford area, on a Mountains & Valleys Run; included was a superb, newly restored, early 1930s MG PA (or J type?) – see pics
Returning via the Brecon Bypass we then took the Mountain Centre road with great views of the Beacons. A few young horses decided to live dangerously by galloping across the road in front of Phil & Glenis.
Carvery lunch was enjoyed by 42 at Craig y Nos Castle.
Thanks to all who supported the run and got their cars dirty?
