SOUTH WALES AREA’S BELATED 2010 CHRISTMAS RUN AND LUNCH

27TH February 2011 - A funny date for a Christmas Lunch but the weather, nevertheless, was better than on the supposed date for the ‘do’ in December when snow and ice put paid to our plans.

McDonalds, Glynneath - 10.30am - 21 intrepid vehicles started off in damp and cloudy weather to attack the valleys and mountains of the Aberdare and Rhondda Fach Valleys. After a quiet run up the old Glynneath Bank the convoy regrouped and we continued via Hirwaun and through the town of Aberdare and over the Aberdare/Mardy Mountain Pass with its exciting hairpins before stopping at the top to put the hoods down.

We descended into Ferndale and proceeded down the valley, past the flying saucers and down to the Anchor Inn where we turned off for Blaenllechau and Llanwonno - when we put the hoods back up!. We proceeded through Ynysybwl and down to Pontypridd Town. From here we took the road through Cilfynydd, Fidlers Elbow, Edwardsville (hoods down again!) and Treharris and on to Trelewis and Llancaiach Fawr.

We then had a tour of the Manor House which was very interesting and informative. (We’ll have to do a Ghost Tour there sometime).

At 2.00pm 56 of us sat down to a 3 course Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings which was excellent.

I hope you all had a good time and enjoyed the day and thank you very much for the flowers and your kind words.
