Nov 22nd - Humps and Things that Go Bump in the Night

Sarn Services, Bridgend (M4/J36) - 10.00am

On a very wet and windy morning it was good to see 17 cars turn up for the run. Sue and Gary and Sue and Ian were slightly delayed with rain conditions and roadworks but arrived in good time for the 10.30 start.
The rain had eased by now but it was "tops up" for the start of the journey. The first part of the run took us from Sarn Services, through Brynmenyn, Heol Y Cyw, Llanharan, Talbot Green, Miskin and Groesfaen before turning off for Pentyrch and down to the A470 at Taffs Well. We then proceeded into Cardiff and visited Roath Park Lake where we met up with John and Zoe.

Miraculously, we were all able to park together close to the gates! Some of us had coffee at the lakeside cafe while others strolled around the gardens. Provision had been made for a "wet weather run" and a "dry weather run" so as some people had never been to Roath Park Lake before, and the weather was dry, it was decided that we would do the "dry weather run" which meant we could spend some time at the lake. Some members then departed as they had prior commitments and at 12.30 the remainder of us proceeded on our way out through Caerphilly Road and over Caerphilly mountain, through the town and out via Energlyn and Llanbradach to Ystrad Mynach.
By now the weather had turned wet and a decision was made to swap to the "wet weather run" and make our way to Llancaiach Fawr Manorhouse at Nelson where lunch had been booked. No-one had been there before and we had sufficient time before lunch to view the exhibition and the shop. Had we taken an earlier decision to do the wet weather run, it would have given us time to do the tour of the Manorhouse and gardens before lunch but we can now keep that for another day.
Lunch was excellent and reasonable and everyone seemed to have had a good day out. Both venues were enjoyed and are places that can be visited again when the weather is better.

Philip and Glenis would like to thank everyone who turned up for their run on what looked like being a washout of a day.
