August 23rd - Gone Fishing
Good Cod - not again?
I wonder if a change of date would also give a change of luck. There is an uncanny coincidence that our Sunday runs fall on the worst weather conditions of the month, consistently.
With this in mind, we had to have a back up plan in place for our Fish and chip picnic.
A trial run on the previous week (in scorching sunshine) gave us a more optimistic view of how things would work out, but as the weekend approached the weather forecast became more threatening and "Plan B" was looking a more likely option.
A run which was to have taken us over Brechfa Forest Mountain and finish with fish and chips on the quay side of Burry Port harbour was modified to a route that kept us below the clouds. With family connections it was a quick phone call to "Daughter No.2" advising that we would be eating INSIDE and to reserve all the seating area for club members. "As long as your not more than 28 and your prepared to do the washing up" was the answer, whats new?.
Battered by the weather
Starting from Swansea West services in miserable weather there were 13 cars including two new member cars with Sue & Andy and Janet & Gethin and a message to say that Maureen would be joining us later.
As we headed up to our first planned stop at Dinefwr Castle the weather was deteriorating and at that stage everyone was advised that we would be deviating from the route instructions and that we would be eating in at Joseph's Fish Bar in Burry Port, 70 Station Road, Burry Port, SA16 0LW (nothing like a bit of unashamed advertising)
With not too many cars in the group we were able to maintain reasonable contact and all arrived together at Burry Port where Maureen was already waiting for us. As the Fish bar doesn't normally open until 5.00 on Sundays, it was a "Private Party Arrangement"
Using the 'servants entrance' we packed ourselves into the Cafe area, initially playing musical chairs until we finally settled in for an excellent meal of Fish and Chips.
Despite the weather everyone appeared to have enjoyed themselves and we may consider doing this again next year.
