June 28th - Golden Valley Run

What reservoir?

15 cars set off from Dowlais Top and took to the lanes through Pontsticill and in the general area of Talybont on Usk.
Unfortunately the scheduled stop to admire a reservoir was baulked as the lay-by (which had been empty the previous Sunday when the run was checked) was overflowing! Carrying on we crossed the Brecon/Crickhowell canal and headed to Llangors.

What car park?

On to Talgarth and then to Hay on Wye. Not again! The previous Sunday's empty car park was bursting because it was the Food Festival (and we thought we had been so lucky to miss the Book Fair!).
So, on again down the Golden Valley which, thankfully, it was after all a Sunday in June, was almost clear of traffic and we had a very smooth run down to the Clytha Arms, near Abergavenny.

What a lunch!

Here some cars went on their separate ways but 15 of us were given a room to ourselves at the back of the pub looking out onto the garden and had a very good lunch sat on one large table. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed and the only regrets of the drivers were they could only have two pints (the Clytha Arms is renowned for its variety of excellent beers).

We were blessed by wonderful weather. Sun with a faint wisp of cloud, so we were not burnt to a crisp and the temperature was comfortable. The promised showers held off until the drive back home. We couldn't ask for more in a British summer!
