Jan 30th to Feb 1st - Tenby Weekend
The Early Birds
It was late on Friday afternoon when four intrepid travellers, Dave and Lyn and Kevin and Lynne, reached their destination of the Giltar Hotel overlooking North Beach, Tenby. They had travelled down via the coast from St Clears through Laugharne, Pendine, Marros, Wiseman's Bridge. Freshwater East and Saundersfoot before reaching Tenby and the start of their weekend. There they met Peter and Jo who had travelled down earlier in the day and were later to meet Kevin and Donna.
After a tour of the town they found an eating (and drinking) place which was within easy walking distance of the Hotel and after a good night out they returned to the Hotel for a nightcap!!!!!
A Wet Weekend in Tenby
Saturday dawned very cold and windy. Eight of us (Sandra and John, Kevin and Sharon, Gary and Sue and Philip and Glenis) met at the Pont Abraham Services and proceeded directly to Tenby. We arrived at the Hotel at around 11.30 where we met the others and also Bill and Lyn who had travelled down from Newtown in Powys. After booking in and unpacking we took a horizontal stroll (the wind was really that bad) around the sights of Tenby and stopped off for lunch at one of the many hostelries in the town.
Rugby took over for some people in the afternoon as the Scarlets were playing the Barbarians. Others went off and did their own thing. The Scarlets won which made Kevin and Sharon and Gary and Sue very happy.
A Touch of Class
In the evening we had booked to eat at the Hotel. There was a large table set out in the dining room which looked as though there was a wedding party expected and we were surprised to find that they had laid this out for us with a welcome board and specially printed menus. We enjoyed a 3 course menu and after this we moved to the lounge/bar area where they had laid on entertainment in the form of a singer called Paul, who was a very good singer/comedian, who got us all involved and we danced the night away until the early hours.
The Scenic Route Home
After a hearty breakfast who we took a trip around the Pembroke area and stopped for a photoshoot at Carew Castle. We then went back to Kilgetty and on to Saundersfoot for a drive back along the coast. We stopped off at Pendine for coffee which was unfortunately closed so made our way to the Fox and Hounds in Bancyfelin where lunch had been booked. Lunch was excellent and from there everyone made their own way home.
It was a very good weekend. The Hotel had put themselves out to welcome us, we had good rooms and the food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed themselves and suggested that we do the same again next year.
