Wednesday Aug 8th - ZZZ Go West

Perfect Weather

Having had rain on every previous run this year our luck had to change sometime. This run was planned for the sunshine and we were not disappointed, it was perfect.

John And Zoes’ Marathon Tour

With ten minutes to go to our 3-00 pm start six cars had arrived but there was a message from John and Zoe “please wait for us we have been delayed”. Little did we know that they had deceided to do their own tour of the Gower Peninsular in the morning before joining us and suffered the congestion of the Gower lanes.

New Run Member

It was nice to see a new car on one of our runs, Ian Forester had brought his son Daniel out for the afternoon to break the boredom of the school holidays. Nice car.

Lost? Impossible

Eight cars would be a an easily managed group that could be kept together, except that fast changing traffic lights out of the services only allowed four cars through at a time and in the busy traffic the lead car took the wrong exit causing total confusion. Sorry, wont happen again.

First Stop

When we arrived at our first stop at Swiss Valley lower reservoir we had lost 2 cars who had gone upstream a mile to the upper reservoir.(sat. navs. would make good xmas presents) When we eventually regrouped it was decided because of lost time to by-pass our next scheduled stop for the exhibition at Parc Howard Mansion House.

Binoculars Needed

Passing Parc Howard and through Llanelli we headed out towards Trimsaran but turned over the mountain road and stopped at Pen-y-mynydd picnic site. The view from here is amazing and we could see Caldy island off Tenby in the disstance and the construction of the new horse racing course in the valley below us.

Boats And More Boats

Dropping down the side of Pembrey mountain there were spectacular views of the Pembrey and Gower coasts. We then stopped off at Burry Port Harbour which is having major improvements to its marine facilities and met up with Maureen and Bram. After a short break and a failed attempt by John to swap his MK3 for a Porche 911 it was off to our final stop at Ferryside. Passing Pembrey country parc and Kidwelly Castle along the way. No cockle picking today but time for an ice cream and a short walk on the beach.

Meeting Time

Time to leave and a non stop drive to the Grove in Porthcawl to meet up with the poor MX5 owners that have to work for a living.
