Sunday July 22nd - PICNIC!

Summer Picnic

Well, it seemed like a good idea. It is July after all.
Despite the weather there was a good turn-out at Sarn services for the start of the run and George must rate a mention for driving to Sarn with the top down.
Leaving Sarn it was off through Maesteg (where Mich-Mich malfunctioned) and Pontrhydyfen (who was born there, have you been reading the recent reports?) and on to Aberdulais to see if any others had braved the weather at the alternative meeting point.

Aberdulais Falls

Yes, more cars!
Mike, being determined to waash the underside of the car, attempted to lead everyone into the flooded car park of the pub rather than the nice new National Trust car park across the road. A quick hello and goodbye to Glenis and Phil who just came out to wave us on our way and then returned to grandchild sitting duties, and to Bram and Maureen who wisely decided that a picnic in front of the fire was a better option.

Lovely Views

The run to the National Park Visitor Centre at Libanus would normally take in some breathtaking views. Today was to be an exception, a view of the car in front was something to be thankful for. Mich-Mich wisely deviated from the printed route and kept to the major-"ish" roads

Lunch

Arriving at the centre it was no surprise to find that ALL of the picnic tables were free, and the cafe was packed.
However, everyone managed to find a table and seemed to enjoy the food on offer.
We were met by Val & Terry who had been forced to bring the Astra (ugly car) due to the MX-5 misbehaving slightly - hope it's all sorted now.
Also hello to Dianne, attending her first run, sorry we didn't get to do the full underbonnet inspection and technical test (verbal and practical - stage 1) perhaps we can do that next time. No, we're only joking.

After lunch the skies did clear, the birds invaded the empty picnic tables in the hope of some food and the sun did appear for a short while.
Unfortunately, it was deemed to be too wet for the event that Sue and Gary were arranging but fear not that will be re-scheduled in the near future

The Final Leg

Being such a grim day many people decide to take the shortest route back home and peeled off along the way.
Some die-hards went up onto the Rhigos mountain and stopped for an ice cream overlooking Tower Colliery before going home.

It just goes to show that even the weather can't dampen our spirits, only our shirts!
