Sunday April 23^rd - Springtime in Gwent

Look at all the cars

An excellent turnout at Cardiff Gate for Darrel and Audrey's first run. Along with 18 MX-5s there was a fantastic collection of other vehicles due to another gathering of the SHVR. Thankfully they were not all following us!

After a thorough briefing from Darrel we set off towards Newport in 2 groups. The first being led by Darrel and the second by Dennis.
Unfortunately, a few of us did not get to grips with the directions on the front of the sheet and diagrams on the back, having lost sight of both leaders we headed for Newport by an alternative route.

Penhow Castle

As we approached, well to be honest overshot, the appointed regroup venue there were no MX-5s in sight. Assuming that we'd missed them by adopting the alternative route it was decided to continue to Abergavenny Bus Station for a welcome refreshment stop.

Abergavenny

As busy as ever on a Sunday with assorted car enthusiasts, bikers and on-lookers, we met up with the rest of the group. I found Jennifer looking adoringly at a Mini that was for sale in the car park, alongside a worried looking Dennis. Suitably watered and relived we headed for Shirenewton and Lunch

The Huntsman

Taking mainly B roads from Abergavenny we wound our way down to Shirenewton to The Huntsman Hotel and a superb lunch.

Head for home

After lunch we each headed of to our respective homes to look back on a thoroughly enjoyable day.
