Sunday February 26th - Treasure Hunt
As last year, Ros and Bob Morgan organised this treasure
hunt for us. They had also obtained some very generous sponsorship from local
Mazda dealership, FRF Mazda.
The weather was pretty cold as you'd expect for February,
but that didn't stop many of the crews having their roofs down. Oddly, there was
one car in attendance that couldn't put it's roof down as it was in fact our
"other car" as K60 PAD was in the shop for some MOT remedial work.
Whenever you're ready
Most of the teams were anxious to get underway but Ros
marshalled us so that a small gap was left between each car. That is all except
for Robin and Andrea who seemed to have other priorities such as sitting in the
car having a leisurely cup of coffee and possibly even a scan of the Sunday
papers before finally being persuaded to set off.
Doh!
In the best traditions of the South Wales Area, and due to
some interesting formatting in the instructions, several teams came unstuck at
the first roundabout (which was actually the second roundabout!). But once that
was all sorted out, it was off on a great drive seeking out the answers to the,
sometimes, cryptic clues from Ros and Bob.
Dopes 'R' Us
The first meeting point was Port Eynon in the Gower where
we had to find something that was described as "No toys?". I don't believe that
anyone got this, but the chip-shop there was actually called "Chips 'R' Us";
cryptic or what. It was a nice place to stop for a tea and a chat and the smell
of the chips was so tempting, but with a carvery lunch promised later, we
managed to resist. After comparing our relative performances somewhat
depressingly, we set of again.
Smashing Spread
Eventually, we all got to the pub for lunch which was a
carvery and was excellent. Ros gathered in all the sheets and after adding up
the scores made the announcements and awarded the excellent prizes.

Results
As ever, the event was superbly organised by Bob and Ros
and the results were:-
- In first place were Glenys and Phil Jones who took
away the splendid jackets provided by FRF Mazda.
- The winners of the tie break were Tina and David who
were spot on with Bab's engine capacity.
Comments
"Just a short note to say thanks to Ros & Bob for
organising another super day. We really enjoyed the treasure hunt and it was
easy to tell how much hard work had gone into preparing it by the way it all
went so smoothly. Even if some of the clues were (as always) trickier than you
first thought. (Or more to the point - didn't think !!). It was also very nice
to see so many people turn out and support it, especially given the cold weather
& a certain rugby match. Still at least it didn't rain or snow. Lunch was also
excellent - a really nice venue & jolly good food !!"
" Thanks Ros and Bob for a great day out together with a
good meal. We couldn't help but notice the first and second in the treasure hunt
had very strong connections to Abercynon. It must be something in the water
there."
"I know it's nearly a week late, but we just wanted to say
thank you to Ros and Bob for last Sunday's drive. As ever, it was a really good
day and we had to think a bit (for a Sunday)."
