Liz & George mystery drive - 24th April 2005

Meeting at Sarn services, for the first of the day's meeting points, it was odd not to see George & Liz - the run's organiser! They were to meet us at Tredegar House for the second meeting, and I suppose technically the start of the run, thanks Mike for the scenic tour of Duffryn.
Sadly Maureen, who had driven to meet us at Sarn, returned home to nurse Bram, hope you're feeling better now.

Leaving Tredegar House, with George's words " Don't lose the car behind you " ringing in our ears, we joined the M4 until the next junction. Then turning off past the Fourteen Locks Visitor Centre. The Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canal Trust have a packed programme of events that can be seen here
We loosely followed the course of the canal to Cwmbran, Pontypool, Abergavenny and Brecon, with a stop at Keepers Pond.

Now that's Lunch

Lunch was at The Tai'r Bull Inn, Libanus, Brecon www.tairbull.co.uk and very nice it was too.
I couldn't fault the meal, although at least one member must have felt that the choice of main course was lacking and that there should have been lamb on the menu!
Wendy and I had more luck with a "custom desert" than some, by getting them to add custard. Apparently if you wanted to mix the ice cream flavours then you were out of luck.
I'm not sure if the Tai'r Bull is a free house but it may be and it could be this that led to one couple leaving without paying! I'm just glad that it wasn't me this time.

Another Tradition

Some of us carried on to the Rhigos mountain for an ice cream but when we got there, nobody wanted one. Come on Michelle, you're letting the side down. However, it was a worthwhile stop for one lady in particular, from the coach that can be seen in the background, who was delighted by all the cars and even more so when Mike offered to take a photograph of her with one of the cars.

Time to head for home, another great day out was had by all. Well done Liz & George on your first run.
