Sunday November 27th - Mountains, Lakes and Legends

So on Friday night it snowed!

So on Friday night it snowed! Oh well, we were all sure that it would be clear for the weekend, and for most of us it was.
However, Bev & Denise who had organised the run found themselves snowbound on the day

A quick rethink

Arriving at the services we decided to get a cup of coffee and have a look at the map. Mike and I agreed that the best option was going to be keeping to the same lunch venue but getting there via main roads only, as many of the side roads were still covered in snow and ice.
A familiar car, but with new owners to be welcomed, we greeted Malcolm and Jane with the car formerly owned by Frank and Jane, and before you ask - no it is a different Jane!

With 8 cars and 1 hitch-hiker
Quite a respectable turnout considering the weather, we left the services and headed for Llangadog via Pontardawe, Brynamman and the well driven and much loved mountain road through the south-western corner of the Brecon Beacons.
Making a stop to admire the snow capped hills, happy children on sledges and the number of unusual (if not downright silly) hats being sported by some of the members.

On then through Llandovery towards Sennybridge and our lunch stop at The Shoemakers Arms, Pentrebach, Sennybridge.
Somewhere en-route we picked up a red MX-5 just 2 cars behind our convoy, Mike was apparently so keen to get a look at her that we shot past the turning for Pentrebach and proceeded to turn around in the road and wave at her as we went by.
Martyn had a brief encounter with a 3-legged dog who seemed intent on demonstrating how he lost a leg!
Having run out in front of The Angel, it than ran around (well hobbled around at least) the car a few times as though trying to herd it up.
It wasn't even a border collie!

Lunch

Arrival at The Shoemakers brought much to the relief of the owners, who at one stage thought they may have had a cancelled booking for around 20 people.
Lunch proved to be very tasty, extremely hot and incredibly reasonable - good choice Bev, shame you missed it.

After lunch, a short drive to Brecon where we failed to find the promenade! Then said our farewells to make our way home before the light failed and the temperature dropped again.
We saw the Mountains, complete with snow. We had a legendary lunch.
Now all we need is for Bev to come back next year and show us the lakes.
