Sunday June 26th - West is Best
Sunny Summer Sunday
A tremendous thunder storm on Friday morning may have left some of us wondering what the weekend would have in store for us,
a dry, bright and warm day was the answer. What else could it be on the day of a run? Martyn had obviously arranged the weather
for us even if though he couldn't make it himself.
Another Face to Remember!
We welcomed Peter from Caerphilly joining us for the first, and hopefully not the last, time. Yes Pete, we are a bit mad but quite harmless really.
Better than Best
Leaving junction 47 we set off in the general direction of Ammanford but not by a route that most people get to see. Although we have
seen parts of it on previous runs you always manage to spot something different each time and the smile seldom leaves your face on roads like these.
Making our way through Garnswllt, Ammanford, Brynamman and Llangadog we arrived at the Castle Hotel in Llandovery for a coffee and toilet stop.
Leaving Llandovery we headed off to our lunch in Llandeilo by means of the most scenic roads in the area.
One question that remains in my mind is:
Why is Darth Vader guarding the car park?

Birthday Lunch
Lunch was at The Cottage Inn, Pentrefelin, Llandeilo www.cottage-llandeilo.co.uk
We appeared to stumble across a meeting of the TVR owners club, or was it just coincidence that there were three in the car park?
Lunch was served very quickly and although this was no doubt helped by Roland telephoning them with our choices from Llandovery, the
impression was that they would have coped efficiently if we'd just appeared without warning.
This has to be one to add to my personal list, a good choice, well served, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
Following lunch a cake arrived along with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" from us and the assembled staff. Sally was threatening to "get"
Roland for this and then what happens - the waitress only gives her one of the biggest knives you've ever seen in your life!
Part 2
After lunch it was decision time: head for home or another short run to Llanelli - NO CONTEST!
Arriving at the recently opened Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club www.machynys.com
the ladies were attracted to Monks Health Club which is on the ground floor while the gentlemen headed for the restaurant and bar on
the first floor. This has two lounges and a sun deck offering spectacular views across the golf course
Carmarthen Bay and the Gower Peninsula.
Could the St Mary's day in April be repeated in Llanelli? After checking the prices the consensus appeared to be - NO!
Nevertheless it was a very pleasant end to a brilliant day (in more ways than one). My only concern is that there seems to be a decline in standards.
We didn't lose anyone, nor did we have to make any U-turns. In fact we didn't even have to consult a map.
Seriously, well done Roland and Sally, a superb run and beautifully organised.
