Sunday 22nd May followed hot on the heels of our great weekend at Margam and brought a new experience to some of us; watching MX-5's racing in the MaX-5 series at Pembrey near Llanelli.
It was a sunny but windy day which caught out some of the follicley challenged and led to a few red patches.
All in all about 10 MX-5's were on the spectators bank to watch a full day of motor-sport action including the MaX-5 series and several other groups including TVR's and Caterhams.
There were thrills and spills to be seen along with some excellent driving. It was surprising to see how the absolutely standard MX-5's went in their group and a few of them competed in a sports section with other cars.
We spent a long time wandering around the paddock where all of the crews were very welcoming and willing to chat about the cars and the sport. The various MX-5 crews were great to chat with and it was interesting to see the various levels of funding and equipment they seemed to have; everything from a couple running their own car and maintaining it under a garden gazebo to a crew with a massive transporter servicing several drivers and cars.
In spite of any differences in the crews makeup, all of the MX-5's are on an even footing because the rules forbid any engine modifications and only allow for small changes to suspension and insist on safety measures such as roll cages and fire extinguisher systems.
All in, it was another great day out with some excitement and some excellent driving.
