Bob and Ros had organised a treasure hunt for us. It was a great one because all the clues were visible without getting out of the car, so no tramping around church yards reading headstones etc.
We all met up at Swansea West Services, a grand total of nine cars competing and Bob and Ros sending us off on our way before heading home then on to the pub for lunch. Bob and Ros were there, clipboards in hand to organise the lunch and brief the drivers on the extremely well prepared route.
Special mention must go to Ceri who came along in spite of what looked like the
hangover from Hell as a result of a day watching Wales beat Italy in the Millennium
Stadium on Saturday. After the obligatory Mac Breakfast, we were off at two
minute intervals to find the treasure.
The route was a beautiful, easy drive through Carmarthenshire with a few stops along the way for those who wanted to get tea or coffee and moan about the clues.
Most
of the clues were reasonably easy, but some were downright cryptic; especially the
one about "beware the pornographer" which turned out to be a sign
asking for "hard-core" in someone's garden!! The one about the wooden
animals was a cute one too, but as you can see, it didn't fox all of us.
We eventually met up for lunch in the Welcome Inn where Ros and Bob had organised an excellent Sunday roast complete with starter and dessert.
First were Michelle and I with our prize being a model MX-5 donated by FRF Mazda of Swansea.
The booby prize of lemon(!) marmalade went to Peter and Anne.
The answer to the tie-breaker question, "how far in kilometres is it from Paris to Dakar?" is 11,163km.
After lunch we held our "teeny weenie" car boot sale in the pub car park where some of us had brought jumble and others bought it. The difference being that all proceeds went into the charity pot; we raised a total of £23.51.
All in all, a nice gentle day out with a chance to see some new places including a country park that I didn't even know existed. Well organised, as ever, by Bob and Ros.
"Many thanks Bob and Ros. Greatly enjoyed.
Hardcore indeed. Well there you go""Well done to Ros and Bob for organising an enjoyable day's entertainment
. Well done to Mike and Michelle for winning - well we had to let him win as he is the co-ordinator - and it was only by half a point. And I was the highest placed proper UK car!""Many thanks to Ros & Bob for a super day which obviously had a lot of thought & preparation put into it. Even with having to look for the clues & drive we still managed to see some lovely scenery much of which was all new to us."
