As Mike was away working, this was my first attempt at running a club drive. Clive and Penny were very helpful in marshalling the cars and generally organising on the day.
We met up at Sarn Park Services for a 10am start and a total of 16 cars arrived for the run. Several first-timers were there and it was great to see them (hello to you all). This being St. Dwynwen's Day (the Welsh Patron Saint of lovers), the theme was lovers. Well, we already had about 30 lovers of MX-5's along for the ride.
First off, we drove up to a village called Llangynwyd where we stopped at the Old House by the Church where the Maid of Cefnydfa is buried. Her story was a sad tale of forbidden love and she fell in love with a commoner rather than the gentry her father had hoped for. She died of a broken heart and is buried in the church yard.
On leaving the church, we drove back down towards Aberkenfig, but turned across the floor of the valley through Bettws, then over to Llangeinor before turning up over the mountain past the Llangeinor Arms. From there we drove up through Ogmore Vale over the Bwlch and then into Cymmer. Driving towards Port Talbot took us through Pontrhydyfen, the birth place of Richard Burton and Ivor Emmanuel.
Eventually we arrived in Margam at the Abbot's Kitchen for an excellent 3 course Sunday Lunch with full Silver Service and all for under a tenner.
As the days are short at the moment, we ended the run here, but as we were so close, we decided to walk into Margam Park to recce the site for the possible May 2005 National Rally which we are currently investigating organising.
The day ended at about 3:30pm and everyone drove off from Margam.
