Once a year, the group takes
over a local social club car park and holds an afternoon of competitions based
around the cars and motoring. If I
was to write out all the highlights of the day it would take ages, so in
summary:-
The
Gymkhana.
Using some traffic cones and some cleverly cut bamboo canes a course was
set out. Drivers had to use their
skill and judgement (or luck) to complete the course with as few points as
possible (the picture shows how not to do it).
The
Remote Control Car. This was just
one of those competitions that left me with a hangover, having to drink enough
cider to mark out a track using the empty cans.
My thanks go to Chief Engineer Ray for putting the car back on the road
after it suffered a differential failure.
Best Car. With Paul’s shiny mobile (Only third at Lulworth) disqualified to give everybody else a chance, it was left to Ceri and his cracked leather effect paintwork to take the honours.
Mystery Bag. This involved a canvas bag filled with items car related i.e. a fuse, set of points, touch up pen and so on. The idea being that you had to place you hand into the bag and guess by feeling the objects. The worrying thing was that I put in a bottle of nail varnish as a rogue item and Peter the winner, correctly identified it.
On the whole I think everybody enjoyed themselves if not for the activities then for watching me run around like an idiot all day. I would like to thank Christine and Ceri for their help. P.S. I am in currently in training for next years event NO not running - cider drinking!!!!!!
