Picnic’s packed, the sun’s shining and with a route Bob Morgan had plotted, using a map, a piece of string and his memory, I lead the group out of Swansea West Services.
The roads and landscape over Mynydd-y-Gwair
and the Black Mountain were both stunning
to drive. After a quick comfort stop we arrived at a picturesque picnic site
beside a river.
For some of us it was just a couple of sandwiches and a drink. For the more organised a banquet appeared with a spread that Egan Ronay would have approved of. Refreshed; we then headed towards the Devils Staircase.
This stretch of road is so steep that it
has to zig-zag its way up and then down the other side of the mountain using
very tight hairpins.
Re-grouping at Llyn Briane we all reflected on the day’s drive and thanked Bob for a great drive before making our way home.
