Christmas Dinner - December 13th 2003

This year's Christmas Dinner was held at the Great House restaurant in Laleston near Bridgend.

This turns out to be a very interesting building with several smallish rooms, one of which we occupied. We had been contacted by the South Wales Ferrari owners' club as they were also holding their Christmas Dinner on the same night; a quiz was devised to test our relative car knowledge, but more of that later...

Nineteen of us turned out all in our best bib and tucker. Special mention must go to Ray and Ceri who did the whole black-tie thing.

Some fool had suggested meeting up beforehand in a pub just up the road called the Oyster Catcher. It wasn't really up to much, but I've been thrown out of there before, so it's almost like my local, so that's why I suggested it, so there!

Once we'd settled in the Great House, we all got our dinner, all of the meat dishes seemed to be very good, but the vegetarian dish was not too good at all. Mine was better than Lindsey's because I actually did find my mushroom. Dessert was excellent and that was then followed by (you guessed it) a quiz. Leyton Thomas, teh Ferrari owners club chairman had provided 20 Ferrari related questions, and I had set 20 MX-5 ones. AFter we'd all struggled through, Leyton came down and read out their MX-5 answers and then Ceri went upstairs to have our Ferrari answers judged. The general consensus was that each team showed a good appreciation and knowledge of the others' marque and we declared it a draw.

Did someone say Quiz? Colin and Viv in festive mood. Keith, who didn't wear black tie. Marilyn and Ray (who did wear black tie). Deep conversation.

Must beat Ferrari, must beat Ferrari, must beat Ferrari... Cheers! The group Ceri in a formal setting.

It was a great evening apparently enjoyed by all, and we must offer our thanks again to Mark and Christine Jones who couldn't actually attend due to pressure of work.
