Bridgend
MG Owners Club kindly invited us to join them on their annual run in aid of a
local charity. For 2003 it was called the Silurian run, a route of approximately
100 miles of contrasting scenery in the South Wales area, once occupied by the
Silurian tribes during the Roman occupation of Wales.
The
route book was laid out in tulip fashion so as I write this report I am trying
to work out on a road map where we actually drove.
The day started in Bridgend and as all to often in these reports the day
was sunny with not a cloud in sight. Seven MX’s turned up (not bad out of 60
cars). Each car set off at 30 second intervals, heading for the first sections
of open roads that led from Ogmore Vale towards Afan Argoed country park. With
excellent route maps we then passed through the town of Neath to the second
stretch of open road skirting the Black Mountains, stopping at Carreg Cennen
Castle for lunch and Raffle draw.
Following
the raffle, Bob and Ros are now the owners of a MG badged thermos flask, while I
won a rather handsome ? !!!! lime green MG X Power rucksack.
Awards were also presented for oldest car and most desirable cars on the
run. Ceri and Lindsay won the award for most desirable MX and were presented a
bottle of wine from the organisers.
The
final stretch of the run was to take us towards the coast with apparently
stunning scenic views. Unfortunately, the weather had closed in and visibility
was down to 30 feet, so after a quick ice cream stop we made our way to the end
of the run Penclcwydd Wildfowl Centre for a well needed refreshment.
I would like to thank Bridgend MG Owners Club for great day and look forward to meeting them all again.
